Dogon Ladder

The cave dwelling Dogon people made ladders by notching tree trunks to reach their homes and grain storage areas. This is a very large, tall and sturdy one. Carved from one piece of wood and later mounted on a self-supporting steel stand, it becomes a dramatic organic sculpture. The final photo below shows another ladder in its African habitat!
